Most people probably never heard of Wipeout on Kinect, let alone Wipeout 2 Kinect. If you had to start with either of these two games, starting with Kinect Wipeout 2 would be the better option as it does improve on some aspects of the prequel — though the changes are not really significant otherwise. This game is a fair representation of the titular television show, and the hosts from the show have stepped in to provide voices for an avatar representation of themselves.
The game is fun, but it is also mind-boggling and can drive you nuts. Getting stuck on an obstacle requires you to either restart it or skip it on the penalty of adding some seconds to your time. The insane part comes into play when you get stuck on the last part of the obstacle, which cannot be skipped as there is no other portion to skip ahead to.
For the most part, the controls work fairly well with the Kinect controller, but one major problem is the precision that some of the obstacles require. To be exact, they require the precision that only a regular controller can offer, something which is not currently available for Kinect. This means you wind up having to retry the course, which quickly becomes irritating by your seventh go.

Like the prequel, this game features multiplayer, and the second player can turn on a regular controller to throw balls at you as an additional obstacle during the summer courses. During the winter courses, rather than balls, the second player can throw mud and slush in its stead. While this is certainly fun for the player throwing junk, it also quickly becomes annoying for the person actually running the course, as every object hitting you results in a time penalty, especially when it is difficult to dodge.
When all is said and done, the differences between the first Wipeout game and the second are rather minimal, to the point where you might not even notice them. The changes that they did make, such as the way the Kinect responds to your motions, are an improvement overall. With that in mind, the second game is certainly the better option over the first one.
