Creators of the bestselling Just Dance franchise returns with another spin-off game, this time featuring the Black Eyed Peas.
The Kinect The Black Eyed Peas Experience game derives much of its core mechanics from the Just Dance series. Just Dance was a game developed by Ubisoft in 2009 that was met with mostly negative reviews from critics due to its shallow depth. However, the game pleased thousands of casual gamers who liked its hassle-free style and ease-of-play, making it an instant, bestselling hit. Since then, Ubisoft has spawned as many sequels as it can muster due to the series’ immense popularity.
The latest creation is The Black Eyed Peas Experience. In the game, the objective is to pick a song from the Black Eyed Peas’ numerous hits and dance the accompanying choreography. The dance routines players have to mimic are performed by 3D models of the Black Eyed Peas themselves. The Peas take turns dancing at the forefront, and the player has to do his best to try and copy the moves as they happen. To aid him, onscreen prompts warn about the next dance step, and the Peas’ also do the moves as deliberate as possible so gamers won’t feel any confusion or frustration.

Most of the songs we’ve come to love about BEP are included in this game. There are old hits like Don’t Phunk With My Heart, Hey Mama, Let’s Get It Started, My Humps, and Shut Up, as well as more modern ones such as Boom Boom Pow, I Gotta Feeling, and The Time (Dirty Bit). All hits come with their own unique dance choreography so you won’t feel like dancing some rehashed steps.
The visuals are simply topnotch. The background features live clips of the Black Eyed Peas, and the dance floor is studded with all kinds of lights and colors which make it feel like you’re at a really high-end club. The Peas themselves are beautifully rendered in high definition 3D, and there’s simply nothing wrong in the game in terms of eye candy.
Kinect functionality is awesome. The moves are read well, and the lack of a controller means that your body is free to move and spin around to your heart’s content. You can also select an in-game avatar and customize its appearance to your liking. The game supports multiplayer, and some songs allow for up to two people to dance simultaneously. With the Kinect version, you can create your own dance routines and share them online through Xbox live. Finally, coaching mode is available for those with two left feet, and they can practice the different steps all they want up until they master it.

There are few flaws in The Black Eyed Peas Experience Kinect game. Probably the most glaring is that the game is simply another rehash of the old Just Dance mechanics. With the exception of including The Black Eyed Peas members and their hits, the game contributes nothing new to the franchise, and players who were hoping for something more might be disappointed.
The Black Eyed Peas Experience can be played on the Xbox 360 and requires the Kinect sensor. Multiplayer mode and duet dances are supported.
The Black Eyed Peas Experience is definitely the game to buy if you’re a dancing enthusiast who is also a hardcore fan of The Black Eyed Peas. There’s nothing more satisfying than getting on the dance floor and grooving alongside the four BEP superstars, even if its just their digital versions. However, the game offers nothing new to the series, and if you’ve already had your fill of Just Dance from trying all the other spin-offs and sequels, you won’t find anything innovative in this release. Still, The Black Eyed Peas Experience is an excellent game in its own right, and definitely one worth getting.
