Kinectimals

Kinectimals

With virtual pet games increasing dramatically in popularity within the past few years, it is only natural that one of the XBox 360 Kinect launch titles focuses on raising virtual pets. Kinectimals promises to add a dimension to virtual pet games by allowing the person playing the game to interact directly with their pet on screen.

Kinectimals is different from the other Kinect sports games and Kinect fitness games. It’s more cute and fun than intense. In the game players will be whisked away to their very own exotic island where they will be able to make and keep some wild friends. There are five types of exotic animals the player can choose from. Players will be able to compete in contests with their Kinectimal, play with them, and even teach them commands.

The Kinect technology allows users to pet their animal just like they would in real life. You will name your animal and using the Kinect technology be able to give them voice commands and watch your animal respond. You will also be able to guide your new friend through an obstacle course that will mimic your moves using the new Kinect technology. Microsoft is even offering limited edition stuffed animals that can be purchased that can come to life on the screen by scanning their tag with the Kinect sensor.

Kinectimals does a great job of getting children to interact with the pet onscreen. The game encourages lots of movement to keep your pet playing, and leaves a lot of space to be explored and active challenges to try. Collecting and training the virtual pets in Kinectimals should keep children and animal lovers entertained for hours.

Overall, Kinectimals seems to be a game that will do a great job of showcasing what direct hands on control can do for the virtual pet genre. Watching the lively virtual animals react on television to actions preformed in the real world promises to make playing with an animal on screen as close to having a real pet as possible, minus the work and the clean up. While the long term play potential of this new game still remains to be seen, it looks like a solid Kinect launch title for animal lovers and children of all ages.
