One of the best selling dance games is back with its latest version, Just Dance 3. Ubisoft has added some extra features while maintaining the core gameplay, making Just Dance 3 another excellent addition to the growing series.
Just Dance is one of those games that defy all logic. The shallow game mechanics and simplistic concept seem to have the makings of a dud, as most video game critics pointed out, but the series has proven all naysayers wrong by taking flight and breaking sales records worldwide, making it one of Ubisoft’s bestselling titles.
In the Kinect Just Dance 3 game, you pick a song out of a sizable collection of over 40 hits and try to mimic the dance sequence associated with that song as accurately as you can. The dance routines are performed onscreen by brightly-lit, neon-colored dancers, and it’s up to you to match their movements. To help you in this endeavor, still figures scroll horizontally along the bottom half of the screen and serve as prompts for upcoming moves. For every successful dance step performed, points are awarded to help you gauge your performance.

The available tracks include popular modern hits such as “California Gurls” by Katy Perry and “Pump It” by the Black Eyed Peas as well as classics like “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen. Each hit comes with its very own context-specific dance number and colorful backdrop that fit with the song perfectly.
The definitive selling point of the Just Dance 3 Kinect game and the overwhelming success of the series can be attributed to the dance routines, which are expertly choreographed to ensure that players look as ridiculous as possible for the enjoyment of their friends. Just Dance 3 can be played alone, but the real fun is in playing with a group. Both hardcore dancers and amateurs will be thoroughly enjoying the game, and the routines are designed in such a way as to cater to both types of players.

Furthermore, the Kinect version of Just Dance 3 has an exclusive, Just Create mode where players can actually make their own dance moves and music videos and upload it for friends, family, and the online community to perform. This is a nice touch to the series and utilizes the Kinect sensor to its fullest capabilities. Also, the Kinect version can now be played with up to four players at a time, ensuring that no member of the party is left out.
Other modes include Just Sweat which is more workout oriented and allows players to burn off the flab, and another Kinect exclusive feature called Shout Out! which allows players to sing along to the song and acquire more points.
With additional downloadable content, online leaderboards, and a ton of extra features, Just Dance 3 is the latest and greatest of the Just Dance series and is definitely a must-have to make parties and group gatherings more enjoyable.
The Kinect version of Just Dance 3 sometimes suffers from glitchy motion tracking, especially in terms of selecting items and options in the menu. While this is only a minor hassle, it takes away from the overall strength of the game and can lead to some frustration.
Also, Just Dance 3 is meant to be a hilarious party game and won’t actually be teaching you any cool moves that can be used in an real dance floor without embarrassing you. If you’re looking for more serious dance games, Dance Central and Dance Central 2 may be more up your alley.
Just Dance 3 can be played on the Xbox 360 console and requires the Kinect sensor. There are downloadable content available and online leaderboards. The game also has multiplayer modes for up to 4 players.
Another entry to the Just Dance series, another great success! Just Dance 3 builds on the strong foundation of its predecessors and comes up with entirely new songs, routines, and special modes to keep the party going. The exclusive Kinect feature of being able to create your own dance videos is definitely a solid addition to the franchise, and 4 player support is just as welcome. Just Dance 3 should be a staple in every party and group gathering. If you don’t have it already, it’s time to go get it. You won’t regret the decision.
