Kinect Joy Ride represents the first of a new experience. Using the controller-free video gaming peripheral Kinect, which reads your physical position with one optical and two infrared cameras, means that navigating through the game’s challenging race courses is a full-body experience. The players turn their bodies to dodge through obstacles and try to outmaneuver the competition, turning a gaming event into a physical challenge. This is not technically one of the Kinect fitness games, but you will feel like it was after playing it for an hour!
Despite the gimmicky sound of the Kinect, the physical element adds game play features unlike any other in a cart racing game. Jumps and stunts are an essential part of the race with Joy Ride, and in order to pull them off, you have to physically move your body. Power ups and boosts add an important strategic element to the game. Developer Kudo Tsunoda is aware that far too many games sacrifice either ease of use for new players or an evolving experience for players who have invested a lot of time and money into improving their skills, and with a sensitivity to this problem, has created a play environment that satisfies both first-time users and those who return again and again, allowing for huge replay value.

While Kinect Joy Ride already comes with five distinct methods of game play and three highly rendered worlds to race across, more content will be released on a regular basis. Further, the game’s growth is directed by the players. XBox Live administration will set up special worldwide challenges for players to complete cooperatively. As the challenges are won, new levels, costumes, and power ups will be available for use by the players. This is easily one of the best in the lineup of new XBox Kinect games available.
