Of the many different animals out there, bears are one that I have always loved. Think about it: They have a fuzzy face, rounded ears, and they're just generally really cute. When I heard Kinectimals 2 would feature bears in the title, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to adopt my very own little cub.
Like its prequel, Kinectimals With Bears allows you to adopt a young animal and interact with them. While you can still have your pick of the crop in terms of felines, I immediately picked the polar bear after strongly debating the panda as my choice. All of them were ridiculously cute, making it almost impossible to pick between the different breeds of bears. After passing on the first two and settling on the polar bear, the sad look the black bear had given my heart a surge of pain. It still stings me, in fact.

With my new polar bear cub, we set out into the world, taking place in an island that housed all sorts of trouble. Once you meet certain requirements, you can unlock new zones on the map, and each new zone offers new types of games you can play. Using natural movements with the Kinect controller, our polar bear and I could climb trees, drive RC cards, dig around for hidden treasure and even find other bears to play with.
Interacting with the Kinect controller in terms of going through the menus, simple interactions and more complex games — such as playing a quick game of volleyball with the cub — were nearly flawless when I played the game. Other moves, such as climbing the tree, were not quite as intuitive because I had to constantly move my hands up and down all while coaxing my bear to follow me. This isn't really broken so much as simply not as easy as other maneuvers.
Indeed, this is a game designed for children, so it is possibly safe to assume that those reading this want to purchase the game for a child. In that case, go right ahead. Not only is the game adorable, but it actually succeeds very well in terms of Kinect motion control. This coupled with the wonderful high quality graphics and the fluid animation provide a pretty realistic illusion of having a tame bear cub in your living room — and who can pass up on a bear anyway?
